Meet our local hero, Peter Yates!
235KM. Uphill. 13 hour deadline. “My beautiful wife, Kitty, has MS. I’ve told her that if cycling around Australia could bring a cure, then I’d head off tomorrow”.
And so he did! Peter took on one of the toughest one day events in Australian Cycling, tackling the 2018 Falls Creek 3 Peaks in the Australian Alps. That’s right, 230+km in his legs! This is what beautiful Peter Yates did to show his undeniable love and support for his wife Kitty who has MS.
Being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (or any other chronic illness) can be a shock – both for the person diagnosed and for his or her family friends. Quite often those diagnosed worry not only about the state of their daily capabilities and how it will change their own life, but they fear for the ones they love and the impact it can have on theirs. There are currently 25,600 Australians living with MS and 7 million of us out who know someone with the disease.
The fact that Peter purely took on the challenge for his wife Kitty, makes his efforts and the ride even more special than it already is. “I can’t take Kitty’s struggles away. If I could I would. But I’m determined to show solidarity and suffer for the cause. This one is for you Kitty”.
We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Peter for raising an incredible $10,706 and for conquering the iconic race to raise awareness and funds for MS research – you’re amazing!
