Red Lab Coat Day 2017

There are many things Australia are best at: beaches, cricket, highest population of deadliest snakes on Earth (ahem)…However, we are also home to some of the best MS researchers in the world. There are 900+ researchers working around Australia to help us better understand multiple sclerosis, dedicating their careers to solving this disease. Whilst they remain modest about their life-changing work, here at Kiss Goodbye to MS we LOVE sharing with everyone just how incredible they are. One way we do this is through Red Lab Coat Day!

Each year the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign is launched with Red Lab Coat Day, this year held on 1st May. Red Lab Coat Day is a chance for the MS community to say thanks to the unsung heroes of the sector. Red Lab Coat Day asks our Aussie researchers to switch their regular (and we think boring!) lab coats for our red Kiss Goodbye to MS coats and upload a picture with the hashtag #RedLabCoatDay to social media.

Every year we are overwhelmed by the response from universities and institutions around Australia and never believe that the pictures can be topped – and every year we are proven wrong. This year more than 200 researches proudly donned their red coats and sent us some of the most creative photos yet! Two very brave Monash University researchers even puckered up for the occasion, putting on a red lipstick as well as their coats! We received great team photos, pictures of ‘superhero’ researchers (we’re looking at you Dr Byrne!) and even photos reinventing the famous Beatles cover album Abbey Road. Check out the best pictures here:

And while Red Lab Coat Day is a fun way to launch the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign, it is a gentle reminder of the incredible brain power that goes to work every day, with the sole intention of making the lives of people with MS better. It is these people who are changing the future of what a diagnosis with MS means. Get involved today and help these super scientists beat MS.
