Let's kiss goodbye to MS
Kiss Goodbye to MS Charity Ball
Our names are Sarah and Millie Horton. Before we were born, our mum was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a disease that attacks the central nervous system; the brain, the spinal cord and the optic nerves. Over the last 10-15 years we have seen first-hand the relentless progression this disease can take. As a consequence, we are very excited about the MS research currently taking place, which will hopefully lead to a day where we can tell MS patients that they can walk again, that they can see again, that they can think clearly again, and ultimately a day where we all really can “Kiss Goodbye to MS”.
Growing up, it was sometimes difficult to describe exactly what MS was, it wasn’t cancer, it wasn’t a stroke or it wasn’t any of the other well-known diseases. All we knew was that it was causing gradual, yet significant reductions in Mum’s mobility and general health. Firstly, she started using a single crutch, then two crutches, a walker, and now finally a walker and a wheelchair, with each step-down mostly being precipitated by an “attack.” Although watching this would sometimes make us scared, and at times incredibly frustrated, the strength of our Mum, and our entire family unit together, was, and still is something which motivates us.
We are excited to launch this fundraising campaign which can both raise funds for important research and also expand awareness within the community for MS and MS research. As a first step, we are planning a Kiss Goodbye to MS Charity Ball, which will raise much needed funds to help support over 47 projects led by researchers around the country.
Our starting point in making this ball a reality was putting together a fantastic group of girls to form the “Kiss Goodbye to MS Charity Ball” committee. This group is the driving force behind the event, and we are working together to make it as successful as possible.
So please join us, at the inaugural Kiss Goodbye to MS Charity Ball. It will be a spectacular evening where guests will be treated to a scrumptious 3 course meal with canapés, dancing, live auctions and high calibre performances from entertainers, celebrity hosts and guest speakers – all to raise much-needed funds for groundbreaking research to help improve the lives of people living with MS.
